(House+Techno)+ x = 0_CCULT

Welcome! In this blog post, I will talk about House and Techno's influence on me and 0_CCULT. If you ever ask me, I would say music is the most wonderful thing in the world. If I didn’t have this much love and passion for music, I would probably never found 0_CCULT. But luckily here we are, watching a DJ mix two things he loves the most, fashion and music.

Music was always a part of my life since I was a little kid but in time, casually listening to 2-3 songs turned into diving deeper into subgenres of music and learn more about the techniques used, history, and messages. After a point, I was inseparable from music. I can’t think of a day without listening to some music. I can’t imagine a week without discovering new songs. Like every electronic music fan, I became a fan of EDM and then transitioned to House and Techno music. House and Techno music quickly claimed their places in my favorite genres of music list. I started DJing 3 years ago in 2018 and discovered more of these genres. People who are distant to Techno and House music may struggle to identify the subgenres if you make them listen to a track. However, the more you get into it, your ear starts to learn and you can tell the difference after a while. Strange enough, you can even confuse disco with classic house music. But don’t feel bad because there is a good reason for that.

We could say House is a descendent of Disco music. House music had its unique sound thanks to the early mixing and remixing techniques of the late 70s era. Back in that time, Disco turned into an underground movement due to the anti-disco movement. Chicago and New York City were two of the cities where this underground culture was the most widespread. In 1979 Disco died in Chicago due to attacks from anti-disco movements and rallies all around the US. However, with the death of Disco, House music was born from Disco’s ashes like a phoenix. I think it’s a fascinating backstory for the genre and it automatically puts meaning to each house track instantly. If you wish to learn more, you can read here.

If our little crash course is over, let’s continue. If you haven’t noticed yet, I am a big fan of house music but especially classic house music. This music genre was made only for one reason and that is to enjoy. Enjoy the moment, life, dance, and have a good time. The best part of it is that you can feel these positive vibes/intentions while listening to any house track. I personally believe we should be able to enjoy the moments of our life like there is no tomorrow. Every house music track is a different journey but one thing is common in all of them. It gets you moving. It makes you appreciate every single beat in the track. Every single instrument, kick, snare, sample. Literally, the BPM of the track controls you until the end of it. Thanks to the art of mixing, DJs keep you going with their smooth song transitions. At that point, it is up to the DJ if you will be relaxing a bit with a slower tempo or dance like crazy and lose yourself in the beat by the faster tempo.

When it comes to techno, it’s more intense compared to House music. Especially the kind I like the most. Dark & Acid Techno. For me, that captures the intensity of life and lets you dance like there is no tomorrow. It’s intense yet relaxing to me. I find Techno very mysterious because if you like it, you can’t 100% explain the reason why you like it so much. It’s cool, edgy, and goes with everything. I can listen to Techno no matter how my mood is. It’s very neutral in a way but also makes you feel so powerful. As I said, I don’t know how to explain it. But in many aspects, techno is similar to house such as every track being a different journey and such. If I can’t explain why we enjoy Techno, maybe it’s something about the human mind. I honestly don’t know.

As I said in previous blog posts, my aim is to reflect the mysterious, dark aspect of Techno and the positive vibes of House music along with elements from other music genres in 0_CCULT’s creations. I talked about this in more detail in earlier posts. I advise you to give it a read.

When it comes to the creation of 0_CCULT there are many other genres/subgenres that shaped this brand’s vision such as Punk Rock, Post Punk, Hardcore Punk, Heavy Metal, Synthwave, Dark rap, etc. Perhaps I will talk about these in a different blog post. So stay tuned! In the meantime, go and check out this 30 hours long House music playlist I created recently. Also, enjoy my house and techno mix on Soundcloud. Peace!
